Methods of Mellow to release first mixtape

By Balamii

The London-based mix series and Balamii radio residents Methods of Mellow are set to launch as a record label on Friday August 6th 2021, with the release of their first compilation Greetings From Cloud Nine Vol. 1.

Coinciding with the August edition of “Bandcamp Friday”, in which Bandcamp waver their own fees, Methods of Mellow will release the compilation as a digital download on the site, alongside a pre-order option for a cassette and poster bundle. Greetings from Cloud Nine Vol. 1 collects original and previously unreleased material from 15 artists who have all contributed to the Methods of Mellow mix series, since its inception in April 2020. Amongst those featured are multi-instrumentalist Bastien Keb, Brownswood Recordings-backed AMA_MIZU, celebrated Ohio-based producer G.S. Schray and L.A’s audio visual artist No Translation. The compilation pieces together an array of downtempo sounds and genres, moving between ambient, electronica, dream pop and off-kilter funk.

Beginning as a personal project in April 2020, at the start of the UK’s lockdown, Methods of Mellow has since hosted close to 50 online mixes from a vast range of contributors. Founder of the project Fergus Ewbank initially called upon close friends for mixes, before enlisting some of his favourite musicians and selectors, both in London and beyond. Now a monthly radio show on London’s Balamii radio, Methods of Mellow continues to shine a light on many forms of downtempo music, highlighting tracks from emerging names and established artists alike.

Methods of Mellow founder Fergus Ewbank, had this to say about the compilation: “Methods of Mellow began as a way to keep myself and a few friends busy during lockdown. It’s been great to see the project grow, and to be able to connect with so many music lovers, both in the UK and elsewhere. Now, just over a year and half into the project, it’s very exciting to be in a position where Methods of Mellow can bring together so many talented musicians, producers and laid back people with our first release, Greetings from Cloud Nine Vol. 1.” ___________
